Chateau de Pez 2003, St Estephe, Bordeaux

Chateau de Pez 2003, St Estephe, Bordeaux

2003 being a hot vintage, you’ll find super ripe, brambly fruit on the nose of this wine . There’s some nice toasty oak and tobacco notes from the 44% Merlot, while the Cabernet Sauvignon (45%) lends it some wonderful currant. The remainder of varieties are Cabernet Franc(8%) and Pedit Verdot(3%). A touch of black pepper is evident and perhaps the minutest nuance of bitumen.

I found this wine ready to drink now from a development point of view, but this development could have been a cork issue, having a higher OTR. It’s quite dry on finish, but in general it’s balanced with some nice velvety fruit and oak tannin. Great pairing with a hearty stew or casserole.
